It seems that all our favorite movies of the late `90s have one thing in common:
Julianne Moore. Her appearances in The Big Lebowski, Boogie Nights, Magnolia,
and a host of other films have proven her to be an actor of great range and depth,
making her a regular casting call for the most respectable directors. Plus, at over
40, she still makes for lovely eye candy.
why is she famous?
Some of her more memorable roles include that of porn star Amber Waves in Boogie
Nights and subbing for Jodie Foster as Clarice in Hannibal. You may also
recall her monologue, recited naked from the waist down, in Short Cuts.
When you look at the enormous list of films that Julianne has been involved in
since the `80s, it`s hard to believe that there aren`t more box-office bombs on
her resume. Granted, early movies such as 1988`s Slaughterhouse II and 1990`s
Tales from the Darkside: The Movie didn`t break any opening weekend records,
but for the most part, Julianne certainly has the Midas touch when it comes to performances.
Films like Magnolia, Boogie Nights and The Lost World: Jurassic Park
proved to be lucrative profit makers, and Julianne`s contributions to them have
won her the respect of critics and peers alike. In fact, it was upon Anthony Hopkins`
recommendation that she was cast as Clarice Starling in Hannibal, a role
that seemed meant only for Jodie Foster.
"I`m looking for the truth. The audience doesn`t come to see you, they come to
see themselves." -Julianne Moore
