Johnny Depp continues his support for the Children`s Hospice and Palliative Care
Coalition; a story on their upcoming Ebay auction reports that Johnny has donated
a signed bowling ball to the fundraising effort. Friends of the Zone will remember
that our 2006 Birthday Project raised money for Children`s Hospice, and we have
also carried many stories about the leather braided bracelet Johnny wears to support
this charity, which is dedicated to offering care to children with life-threatening
illnesses, and to assisting their families.
If you would like to obtain a bracelet like Johnny`s--it says "Today is a gift.
Have fun!"--they are available on the Children`s Hospice website
HERE. 100%
of the cost of the bracelet goes to support Children`s Hospice. The Ebay auction
to benefit the Hospice will take place in December; we will carry further details
as they become available. You can read the full story about the auction and Hospice`s
efforts on behalf of seriously ill children on the Porch; thanks very much to emma
for the news.

Will there be a PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 4? Interview with producer Jerry Bruckheimer
Sheila
Roberts of moviesonline.com caught up with PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN producer Jerry
Bruckheimer recently, and she seized the moment to ask if, due to the phenomenal
success of DEAD MAN`S CHEST, there were plans to extend the adventures of Captain
Jack Sparrow beyond the third installment, AT WORLD`S END. Here`s what Ms. Roberts
asked Mr. Bruckheimer:
SR: What have you seen in the poster for PIRATES 3 that`s got you really excited?
JB: We have Chow Yung-Fat which is really interesting and exciting. It`s a thrill
to be able to work with him. There`s always new stuff. We`ve got an ending that`s
amazing. It`s really a nice ride and it`s still filming.
SR: Is Keith Richards in it?
JB: He`s in it. We finished him. He`s filmed. He`s got a small little cameo.
SR: Is his head okay now?
JB: Apparently. [Laughter] He was great to be with. He didn`t want t o leave.
He was having the best time.
SR: Is there going to be a PIRATES 4?
JB: I hope so. I hope so if we could come up with a good story. I think we have
a big jump on a story that we`re going to do.
SR: When I interviewed you for the second one, you said, `Oh, we don???t know
yet.` With the latest one doing so well, it seems there may be a fourth one coming
out?
JB: Yeah, we hope so. We hope so.
The Zone thanks emma for posting the interview; you can read it on the News &

"Johnny fell in love with Eric J`s artwork:" Barry Levine talks about Johnny
Depp and REX MUNDI
In an interview with David Elliott published on Newsarama.com, producer Barry Levine
talks about how he got Johnny Depp intrigued with the REX MUNDI graphic novels and
interested in playing the protagonist, Julien Sauniere. "I met Arvid Nelson and
Eric J at Comic-Con four years ago as an independent producer and fell in love with
the concept, the writing and the artwork," Levine explains. "I spent a year trying
to get studios interested in it. They all said the same thing. Too dark, too ambitious,
and too hard to sell. But I have a tattoo on my arm that says, `Who does not hope
to win has already lost.`"
Levine eventually got the project to Tracey Jacobs, who sent it over to Infinitum
Nihil, Johnny Depp`s production company. "Johnny read the comics, he had already
been researching that time period and characters," Levine reports. "Once we had
established that relationship, we worked very closely with Sam Sarkar, who runs
development for Johnny. When we sat down with Johnny, he fell in love with Eric
J`s artwork and that pulled him into the story." A small sample of the REX MUNDI
artwork appears at left; we think that, apart from his blue eyes, Julien Sauniere
bears a very strong resemblance to Johnny Depp.
The next step in bringing REX MUNDI to the screen was developing a screenplay.
"Once we had Johnny interested in this as a project for him to star in, Jon Levin
at CAA suggested a meeting with Jim Uhls [who wrote FIGHT CLUB]," says Levine. "Johnny,
Sam and Jim had several conversations that resulted in Jim coming onboard as the
screenwriter."
The Zone thanks sleepy for the REX MUNDI news and dharma_bum for the artwork;
you can read the full interview with Barry Levine HERE. There is also an interesting
discussion of REX MUNDI on the Zone`s News & Views forum; many of us are rapidly
falling in love with this project!
"Like doing THE SOUND OF MUSIC but with lots of blood"--Tim Burton discusses
his upcoming film SWEENEY TODD with MTV
In an interview with MTV`s Larry Carroll, Tim Burton described his vision for his
upcoming film of SWEENEY TODD. He sees his version of the Stephen Sondheim musical
as "a hard R-rated horror flick." Tim said, "You can`t really skimp on that stuff--it`s
got to be what it is. It`s not going to be a G-rated movie, no." After laughing,
Tim added, "It`s kind of like doing THE SOUND OF MUSIC but with lots of blood, so
I don`t know how that`s going to work out. We`ll see. I`m excited to try it."
Tim also confirms that his Sweeney Todd, Johnny Depp, will be doing his own singing
in the movie. "It`s going to be the [actors singing]. That`s important. It`s a movie,
it`s not a Milli Vanilli record." When MTV asked if the director was concerned about
gambling his multimillion-dollar movie on a singing voice he`s never even heard,
Tim replied, "No. I go over to his house and we sing show tune s every night. It`s
a ritual with us," he laughed. "Johnny is great," Tim added. "I`m always looking
for some new kind of challenge, and this certainly is that. We are laughing about
it already, and we haven`t even started yet."

forum; you can read it in full there or
